3 Reasons You Should Get More Sun

Benefits of sun exposure 3 Benefits of sun exposure

Everything that I read lately says that the sun is no good for you. You should stay out of the sun. You should always wear sunscreen. You should stay covered up. No one is talking about the benefits of sun exposure.
Well I’m here to tell you that the sun is not the big evil demon that it is made out to be. There are a number of positive attributes that can be gained from exposure to sunshine.
Let’s explore 3 of them.

Benefits of Sun exposure
1. Vitamin D – 90 to 95 percent of our body’s vitamin D comes from the sun.
In a recent study, almost 80 percent of participants did not have sufficient levels of vitamin D. This can be a serious issue as vitamin D is responsible for many important functions in the human body.
Perhaps best known for helping to keep bone density high and also helping with the absorption of calcium, vitamin D also plays a major role in regulating cell growth. This means that Vitamin D plays a role in almost every function in the human body!
Problems associated with low levels of vitamin D.
Osteoporosis
Certain type of Cancer
Heart disease
Digestive Problems
Joint Health
Vitamin D deficiency is becoming more and more of problem as people are taught to shun the sun! This is one of the primary benefits of sun exposure.
You need around 15-20 minutes in the sun with your arms and legs exposed, 3 days a week in order for your body to produce the amount of vitamin D that you need for proper cell function.
2. Sun is food for your mood!
Yes, sunshine cheers you up. This is one of the benefits of sun exposure that cannot be overlooked. Exposure to sun boosts your body’s levels of serotonin. Serotonin is one of the hormones responsible for boosting your mood. Think about the last time it rained for a couple of days and how good it felt to get out in the sun after the rain had stopped. That was because of increased levels of serotonin.
Those of us that consider ourselves sun worshippers are hooked on that awesome feeling of the warm sun shining on our faces. I’m experiencing it right now as I sit in the sun with my laptop, writing this article! Ahhh, the benefits of sun exposure!
3. Sunlight exposure helps to maintain a healthy sleep cycle.
Number 3 on our list of the benefits of sun exposure.
Sunlight entering your eyes is responsible for synchronizing important biorhythms in your body and keeping you on a 24 hour calendar.
A healthy circadian rhythm is largely dependent on adequate exposure to sunlight.
Early morning sunshine, in particular, has been shown to reset the body’s internal clock and promote a good night’s sleep.
The next time that you hear someone talking about how bad the sun is for you, remember that the sun is essential to all living things and provides us with immeasurable pleasure as well as some distinct advantages that we cannot live without.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to roll over and get some sun on my back….
